THE PURPOSE OF PENTECOST
– WHY THE CHRISTIANS WERE GIVEN THE HOLY SPIRIT –
When Jesus walked on earth, He did many miracles wherever he went, healing sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, and more. However, when Jesus was about to leave this earth, God had a plan.
“All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.” – Jesus. John. 14:25.
God knew, that when Jesus would go to Heaven, the Christians would need more than the written Word of God to spread the Gospel, and win new souls for His Kingdom. They would need access to the same power that Jesus used, when He was doing miracles amongst the people He met. The Holy Spirit. Because that was a proof that He was sent from God, given the Spirit to heal and cast out demons, that you cannot do with occult powers.
“Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed the man so that he could speak and see. The crowds were all amazed and asked, “Could this be the son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, does this man drive out demons.” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” Matt. 12:22-27.
Jesus also warned the disciples how little effective if would be to spread the Word without accompanied with the works of The Holy Spirit.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” – Jesus. Matt. 5:13.
Before Jesus went to Heaven, He underlined the contents of the works of the disciples that would follow Him after the resurrection.
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay there hands on the sick, and they will be made well.” – Jesus. Mark 16:17.18.
Then Jesus was crucified and went to Heaven. The apostles were left, many of them in grief. But then.
“When the day of Pentecost came, the believers were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw tongues like flames of a fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:1-4.
From then on, the works of the disciples continued with the supernatural works of The Holy Spirit, as predicted by Jesus.
“One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those entering the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, he asked them for money. Peter looked directly at him, as did John. “Look at us!” said Peter. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were strengthened. He sprang to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and leaping and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.” Acts 3:1-10.

As a Christian, you can today start to act with faith upon the Word of God, and God´s power will materialize in many forms. Even though we most of the times might not see a miracle take place there and then, the strength of the power of God, as well as your faith will build up hand in hand as you act in faith, ignoring the circumstances and only care about what the Bible say. This will result in this fact;
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” – Jesus. John 3:30.
It´s a healthy walk in growth with God, as you act upon the Word of God, you will get closer to Him as yourself and your ego are reduced, and the faith, compassion, love and power will increase.
Remember, the Bible is the supreme truth. By acting on the Word, the circumstances has to obey the Word.
